Feeling overwhelmed by WordPress?

WordPress is a fantastic platform for a blog or website. It’s customizable and can fit the needs for any kind of site you want to create.

But the learning curve of WordPress can make you feel in over your head (especially if you aren’t “tech savvy”).

That’s why I’m creating WordPress Mechanic. The goal is to take this complex platform and help you learn the ins and outs in a new way: enter the car analogy.

WordPress Mechanic Course by KitBlogs.com

While not everyone has created a site before, almost everyone can understand the parts and general workings of a car.

This course will walk you through WordPress like you are a mechanic (or new car owner) to translate the terminology and methods in a more understandable way.

Merely to illustrate how this analogy works, here are some high level ways we will go through WordPress (topics will be covered one-by-one):

Diagram of car concept applying to different parts of WordPress (by KitBlogs.com)

I know, I know, this analogy may sound weird but here me out.
Say you load up the trunk of your car with a bunch of feather pillows.
Does that affect the car?
What if you load up your trunk with a metric ton of workout weights?
What happens?
It slows down your car and you have to buy more gas.
So filling your trunk is essentially the equivalent of site speed – load up your site with heavy, clunky (or too many) plugins and your site slows down. Nobody is going to want to ride in YOUR car (unless they are still miraculously using dial up and are used to the wait – oh man, remember those days?!).

Discover the basic (and not so basic) ways you can create a site that is optimized for speed and looks amazing.

While I’d love to cover EVERYTHING about WordPress, this course is about the built-in functionality of the platform (with some tips and recommendations on plugins, etc). With millions of website themes, plugins, widgets, page builders, and so much more it’s impossible to teach all aspects of the platform.

But here is a list of topics I will cover broken down into bite-sized chunks using a car as an analogy to help you understand each one:

  • WordPress basics (platform walkthrough)
  • Adding a theme (and child theme)
  • Downloading and activating plugins (with recommendations)
  • Updating WordPress settings
  • Updating your header
  • Updating your footer
  • Optimizing for site speed
  • Gutenberg basics
  • Creating pages
  • Creating a blog post
  • Adding widgets (blog sidebar, etc)
  • Updating menus
  • Customizing your site
  • Uploading media (photos, infographics, etc)
  • Launching your site
  • Setting up a resource library
  • Embedding opt in forms
  • Comment moderation
  • Embedding videos and other media
  • Basics of getting your blog legally compliant (I’m not a lawyer but do this for clients all the time)
  • Suggested website hosts

And so much more!

Have ideas or want to share your current struggles so I can add lessons to the course? email me at support @kitblogs.com.

No more boring, dry tutorials on YouTube. Let’s make this fun!

What this course IS

Someone suggested that I term this “WordPress for Dummies”, but that’s not what this is. You are NOT dumb. If you have been struggling with WordPress you are not alone.

Anyone can learn WordPress and a lot of the work is merely getting everything set-up. Then it’s just a matter of creating content and maintaining your site (which is pretty simple after you’ve learned through the set-up process).

But that is why this course is being created – boiling down the complexity of WordPress in terms of a car will help you grasp the concepts and methods without getting lost in the terminology (which you will learn, I promise – this course just helps you comprehend faster).

What this course is NOT

This course will not teach you HOW to blog (that’s a whole other course), merely show you how to implement what you learn about blogging within WordPress.

Hello there! I'm Kristine from Kit Blogs!

My passion is helping other bloggers cut through the crap-load of information out there and get their sites launched…FAST! I’m also a mom of 2, blogger, organization nerd, and former project manager.

As a project manager, my job was to take complex mobile applications and communicate them in a way that made sense to non-techy clients (like Nick Jr, Toys “R” Us, Penguin Random House, and others).

If you’ve watched my videos or attended any summits I’ve participated in, you know I LOVE metaphors and analogies.

I even likened blogging to being the conductor of a symphony!

Why? Because simplifying (while also being thorough) is my jam.

Don't get me wrong, there will be some in-depth tutorials. We just won't get into learning about CSS, HTML, or other coding methods (unless it applies directly to a lesson).
